Zanzibar Adventures with the Zanzibabes

Our Zanzibar trip was filled with unforgettable experiences and incredible growth! Together as the "Zanzibabes," we ventured beyond comfort zones, took in Zanzibar’s vibrant beauty, and bonded deeply with one another.

Each day brought us closer to Zanzibar’s heart, from a sensory journey at the Spice Farm to the serene, interconnected ecosystem of Jozani Forest. At Maasai World, we learned about a proud, resilient culture and spent time connecting as women—supporting each other through laughter, reflection, and honest vulnerability.

One of the most treasured moments? The girls surprised me on our final day with a beautiful piece of art, tricking me into an art shop to secretly choose what I loved. It was such a heartfelt gesture of gratitude, one I’ll forever cherish as a reminder of the power of friendship and shared memories.

This trip was filled with highlights: dolphin-chasing and snorkeling in clear, turquoise waters, a sunset boat ride that lit up the horizon, and a visit to Prison Island, where we met 200-year-old tortoises. But above all, it was the powerful lessons we took from the experience that mattered most.

  • Learning each other about money management and financial opportunities that allow you to travel even more and create a financial plan for the future.

• Patience and Flexibility TRUSTING THE PROCESS

  • Embracing the pace of a new culture teaches resilience and the beauty of going with the flow when things don't go as planned.

• Coming Together as Black Women

  • Sharing stories, uplifting one another, and standing in solidarity reaffirms the power and importance of community.There is so much growth and self awareness that you learn in the company of sisters who just get you .There is safety and confidence knowing we have each others backs.There is unity that grows in sisterhood.

• Cultural Immersion and Connecting with the Motherland

  • Engaging with the traditions, food, and stories of Zanzibar deepens your appreciation for the richness of African culture.It develops a richeness about our roots and reaffirms our identity.

  • Walking on African soil and seeing its beauty firsthand strengthens your identity and connection to your roots.

• Rediscovering Yourself

• Stepping away from daily life, exploring the world, and embracing adventure allows you to reconnect with the parts of you that thrive in freedom and discovery.

I learnt to be comfortable and open with being my authentic self “warts-and-all”. I was encouraged to continue pushing myself out of my comfort zone to allow for growth and new experiences. I had opportunities for self reflection and an opportunity to see just how much I have changed over the last year. I am now riding the waves of self growth in every opportunity life presents me with. This movement has not changed since coming home, instead it is being applied to other adventures; new job, new home, healthy me.

Donna, bold steps you bravely made,Out of your comfort zone, you never stayed.Your courage inspired us, a sight to behold,In you, we saw a story unfold.

And Vee, with your smile that could light up the skies,Your warm heart shone through your gentle eyes.In every moment, your kindness was clear,We felt it deeply, knowing you were near.

Lorna, oh Lorna, your humor so bright,You filled every moment with laughter and light.With jokes and stories, you kept spirits high,Turning even the grayest cloud into blue sky.

Karen, always ready to have some fun,On the beach acrobatting and dancing under the sun.You danced with joy, carefree and wild,In your presence, we all felt like a child.

Louise, facing your fears without hesitation,Nothing could stop you, not even frustration.You conquered each moment with strength and grace,Determined and fearless, nothing out of place.

Iyabo, with your gentle spirit so warm and kind,Your caring nature always shined.You filled the group with love so pure,Making each of us feel safe and secure.

And Milly, with giggles so sweet and bright,You discovered your inner artist, free and light. Celebrating another year of life on this trip,Bringing warmth and laughter, we could all pledge.

Through Stone Town’s history and the Spice Tour’s delight,The sunset boat ride glowing in twilight.From Jozani Forest to the Dolphin’s dive,Together we felt so beautifully alive.

This trip was only possible because of each of you,Creating a space where love and friendship grew.We cried, we laughed, we shared and cared,Through every moment, you all were prepared.

You showed patience when the time overran,Looked out for each other, hand in hand.A bond unbreakable, so deep and true,This trip was special—because of you.

So here’s to the Zanzibabes, forever in my heart,Even though this journey ends, we’ll never be apart.
